Tents of Hope is coming to Washington, DC

Tents of Hope is coming to Washington, DC from 7-9 November!

Here are some links about the event that are available so far. This program is a mission of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC), headquartered in Cambridge, MA. The entire weekend is part of the Save Darfur Coalition-sponsored student & adult activist training & conference weekend. This link is a great page of "who's participating?"

GG is pleased to announce that Darfur Peace & Development Organization will be receiving some tents (the number is not final yet). There will be many future announcements, but please save the date. There will be the opportunity to make art (tent painting)...stay tuned.

Javier Bardem & The Invisibles

Message from GG Central. "Stars" don't take up a lot of our thinking time but...GG's editor admits to being excited about a screening (10 September 2008 in Washington, DC) of the Javier Bardem-produced film, "Invisibles." GG was furious at the lack of an invitation; she was somewhat mollified by the "ghastly oversight explanation." Phew. Now, GG's editor just needs to think about which scarf to wear with her one dress--yikes. (I know! But GG's editor also reads fashion & style magazines...don't judge, dears. Diana Vreeland reminded us that other people have to look at us, after all.)

Day Seven: The Women of Darfur

Women and girls living in Darfur and eastern Chad-- in camps, towns and rural areas--live in constant fear of sexual violence. The perpetrators are usually men from the Sudanese security forces, militias, rebel groups, and former rebel groups. Gender-based assaults occur as part of attacks, but also in times of relative calm.

In this webcast, Mia talks with women about their lives in the refugee camp. GG does have other aspects to her life, contrary to some people's perceptions. I mean, we're off to Provence, after all...]
