A Wombat for Wednesday

It's been a busy day here but we had to share this photograph of a little girl & a wombat. It's by our favorite Sam Hood in the State Library of NSW Archives. We're not experts on marsupials so here's a National Geographic page on the little devils. Here's a link to a cute wombat coloring page.

G'night (g'day to our Aussie pals!)

Artful Aussies - Then & Now

Photograph of Tom Roberts(9 March 1856 – 14 September 1931) by our fave Sam Hood via the State Library of New South Wales Archives. Roberts was the British-born Australian founder of the Heidelberg School of Painting in Australia. (What?! This is confusing. Art historians, please be in touch.) Artcylopedia's link to Mr. Roberts, here. (We admit, we thought he was rather good looking & so...ahem, this is a lot of trouble to justify posting a photograph. Good grief.)

The Aussie-of-Now is a photographer (who loves paintings). (GG's behavior lately has left her editor very distracted & unable to type Plain English. All apologies.) We speak of Julie at Being Ruby, brilliant photographer/artist who cooks up all manner of marvellous travel stories with accompanying witty text. Quite often there are clever gems hidden in her end-notes & credits, for heaven's sake. You absolutely must visit her in Sydney. All you have to do is...click.

GG in July

We're goofing off. Actually, we're very busy. And cannot quite believe that it's July--already.

You're definitely missing out if you don't go to the Archives of the State Library in New South Wales, Australia & peruse their
flickr sets. It's obvious that we're quite fond of them, especially photographer Sam Hood's photos. Here's another favorite from the pets & other animals set, with the literal title, Girl with two cats and a kitten, Sydney, 1930s / Sam Hood
.

However rushed you might be, there's still time to check out a link or two here, surely. Perhaps to bid on an item at Made4Aid in the upper right sidebar (more about them soon). Don't be shy: artists in the UK with a most wonderful idea (but you can visit them from anywhere). Check them out!
