National Book Festival 2010

It's that time of year again--the National Book Festival is Saturday, 25 September 2010. Giulia is pitching a hissy again because...she can. And because there is no way she's going this year & she has been told early & often. (She just voted for her favorite author, though, here.)

We are very disappointed in the mysterious disappearing poetry section of the festival. Read here for poet
Bernadette Geyer's analysis. We agree heartily & wonder what poets are going to do about it? Huh? Put up your dukes & fight, people. (Not literally.)

Bella Capri on Sunday

How GG & her editor would like to be in Capri (OK, perhaps Anacapri during tourist season) today. These lovely images were recently posted by the Library of Congress. Visit their Photochrom Travel Views set, here, & marvel at their ongoing Grand Tour. Also, we recommend a visit to Australia's Being Ruby & her lovely photographs from a trip to Anacapri.

National Book Festival 2009

Giulia wants to attend the festival this year & we are considering giving her a much-needed outing. She has a new cherry-blossom patterned harness & lead & is ready for an afternoon of literary hobnobbing. If you're in, near, or will be in Washington on Saturday, consider dropping by the National Book Festival. (If not, visit the link; it's a bit of virtual amusement.) By dropping into & out of museums along the way, you can get some exercise & see some great autumn exhibits in one day.

BTW, if you see a redheaded, opinionated cat on the loose, grab her. GG aspires to be a museum cat; however, breaking out of the bag & dashing into the National Art Gallery is not on Saturday's menu, no matter what she might indicate to passersby.*

Cool & Calm Wales - Week's End

Two lovely calm photographs from the Library of Congress via flickr; they've new Welsh photographs. We particularly like these two. It's very hot in Washington (not unusual) & we're feeling sort of peevish, so these will help. We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

GG wants YOU to work for change

Would you like to work for the new Administration? GG would love for you to come to DC (of course, there will be jobs across the country). Even if you're not interested in that, please visit Change.gov, President-elect Barack Obama's Transition Office website. You can write your story on it, you can apply for jobs, you can follow the transition process. This is the changeover from mybarackobama.com. Photo of Lincoln's 1861 Inaugural...very cool Library of Congress collection.

Ciao!

National Book Festival 2008

Giulia & her editor can't go to the festival this year (there's a birthday at GG Central on the 27th!) but it's amusing & we often run into writers & artists we know & see about three times a year. Hope for sun & go. You'll be around a lot of museums, so a quick hop into one or two is always satisfying.
