GG Takes a Hike - Week's End

We're off to take an urban hike but mainly GG's editor is fussing about with a new banner & template colors. A trip to Brookside Gardens is planned for the weekend. Here is their cool (new-to-us) online botanical drawing gallery. Giulia is fuming that the website says: no pets at the gardens. She is claiming service animal status. It's true that she has an invitation to become a "licensed" therapy cat. (Seriously.) Have a good weekend! (photograph by laura trevey via rachel follet/lovely clusters)

Made4Aid Monday - London Calling

We're reviving Made4Aid Monday...not enough people are bidding to keep us happy. These cards are not on auction but available without bidding. Below are a few details, but you'll be sorry if you don't hop over & see all 16 cards. Really beautiful. (They'd make a great gift. Ahem.)

"These cards will be on sale until around early December or so... for a minimum donation of $1.70 per card. This isn't an auction - you're not bidding against anyone else as I can make up more cards for the next person - you can simply pay and I'll mail your cards to you once your payment is received....Postage for up to 8 cards would be: UK - free; Europe - $1.90; Worldwide outside Europe - $2.40. If you want to buy more than 8 cards please email..."...

Cool & Calm Wales - Week's End

Two lovely calm photographs from the Library of Congress via flickr; they've new Welsh photographs. We particularly like these two. It's very hot in Washington (not unusual) & we're feeling sort of peevish, so these will help. We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Abandoned in Darfur - Week's End

It's a complicated subject, no doubt about it; we won't disagree. What brought this on? Someone asked us today if 'that Darfur thing' was over. Seriously. A good resource (wherever you are, even if not in the States) is the Enough Project. [Also in right sidebar]

At the very least, won't you protest to your (various) governments? In an e-mail or telephone call? If you've already done that, do it again. Discover your inner pest & redirect it towards officials-who-might-give-a-damn & keep out of trouble with family & friends.

Darfuri flora & fauna

Two camels, a baby camel, & a baby goat...they need water, too. An everyday scene; those babies are cute. And camels are fine, if you get to know them. Their long pretty eyelashes can make up for their displays of crankiness. One time, GG's editor was run right into a thorny bramble in North Africa by a camel. There was a bit of a conversation; the camel didn't do it again. [photograph by Susan Burgess-Lent/DPDO/all rights reserved]

If you missed our update on Friday's Anne Frank post: for the abstract future, comments cannot be left for this site. Too much hate e-mail & comments. It's too stressful; things are bad enough. Enjoy the blogs & links on the page.
