Holiday Hair

If your hair needs some help for the holidays or any day (especially now that static has arrived - boo), don't pull it out. Don't twist it into knots (or do, come to think of it), see these links. This one & this one are go-to hair for us lately. This one is on the menu for Christmas.

Ten-minute holiday hair tutorials by Rubi.

In the thick of it, 3 fancy hairstyles for thick hair.

Pinterest-to-reality hair challenge (it worked out better than expected).

Pinterest board for more looks including lovely short hairstyles.

Now go play with your hair! xoxo

She Lets Her Hair Down

...and helps you put it up, too. For hair advice & inspiration (& humor), visit Rubi Jones' She Lets Her Hair Down. She moved from New York to Paris & is wowing them there. If you have long hair, you should watch this lovely video. It's more of a little film than straight tutorial but it is instructive. And both techniques work (because we do both but it's nice to see how someone else does it.)

Lest you think the blog is only for those with long hair, there's plenty for everyone. (Including men.)

Flower Power

Whether you wear flowers on your head or elsewhere, florals are big this season. GG's editor suppresses a giggle, though, at breathless declarations that flowers are making a comeback. Really? Where did they go?

The influence of Mad Men is also everywhere in style & fashion this spring & will continue as the fifth season airs here in the States. There are plenty of beautiful pale lipsticks available for those tired of red lips or who are convinced (incorrectly) that they cannot wear any shade of red. Megan Draper wore Nars Belle de Jour in Sunday's MM premiere. Bella. If that is too expensive, Revlon has some great pale shades. (For those wanting an eyeliner tutorial, here's one. It really is not difficult.) Finally, a short post with thoughtful comments on mod fashions in "A Little Kiss."

Holiday Lips

Giulia's editor is mid-computer crisis panic. It's not pretty but here are some pretty lipsticks. Yet another red-lipstick-is-it guide from The Guardian. Several favorites are on their list. Also, Joanna has excellent links, like this latest lipstick. Wish we could wear it. Beso has a Three Makeup Pick-me-ups that look good, too.

We'll try to be back tomorrow...

Tiny Fragile Animals

We are running very late indeed, today. Here is little post run originally on bricolage last month.

When GG's editor saw the second photograph (& more on
Nonesuch
via swissmiss), she thought of a line in a Leonard Cohen poem: /because your eyelashes/are the spines of tiny fragile animals.

Hop over to the link & see the other lashes. Very cool. If you're in the market for faux lashes, but can't imagine wearing these, here are some pretty pairs.

Sunday Styles

Sunday is a good day to try out something new in the hair, wardrobe, & beauty department. Giulia doesn't have to fuss much with her fur; her editor brushes her twice a day & GG does the rest, as cats will do. Otherwise, she is gorgeous. Her editor, though, that's a different matter altogether.

This afternoon, we'll be trying out some new (& some old favorites) hairstyles. Here are some great hair ideas & tutorials if you have long hair (but it's not as thick & heavy as ours).
Have a great Sunday evening!

Elegant Arches

There is an ongoing personal maintenance crisis here at GG Central. A reminder of this today is an illustration by Gerald Zephyr on deviantArt. Off to figure out how to wrestle brows into Sophia-shape. (Giulia's brows are impeccable, of course.)

GG Wants a French Braid - Week's End

For heaven's sake, Giulia has longish fur but it is nothing like her editor's. Still, she pines for a crown of braids. She might get crowned today, but it's a different kind. (We're teasing!)

Recently, several ladies stopped GG's editor & inquired: "How do you do that? Do you do that on your own?" GG's editor does so occasionally on her own, yes. But it requires much swearing & one shouldn't do that in front of others, including a devilish feline. When she was younger & more (delusionally) powerful, one of her interns adored playing "beauty parlor." Before working hours, braided masterpieces appeared on our head. How we miss Antoinette (not just for her braiding artistry).

Herewith, a little summer fun. A link for 15 Grown-up Ways to Wear Braids; a link for African-American hair & braiding; & the history of braids & other styles. (Much to Giulia's dismay, there is no--repeat--no history of cat fur braids.)
