Writing in Coffee Shops

Friday a.m. update - Giulia's editor remains in exile (for writing purposes) at a coffee shop. The little redheaded one remains at home. It's hot. As the kids say, this blows. All of it. Don't even get us started on the debt ceiling talks.

An article on writing in coffee shops. So far the charm eludes us. Fume.

One More Cup of Coffee

Buona mattina, bambini. Some photographs while waiting for espresso. (Giulia is still asleep.) We hope to be back today; allergies & such have laid us (GG, too) quite low. Mimph.

Espresso expression

It wouldn't be so bad (Monday) if we had this cup of caffeine, uh, coffee. (photograph credit)

It's always a moka morning...

What would we do without our Bialetti? Shudder. Yes, it's St. Patrick's Day but we'll be with you later...after our espresso.

Marrakesh Tea Time

All credit to Lori Langille of automatism for the discovery of gorgeous shots from Marrakesh (or Marrakech, if you prefer) by only alice, an Edinburgh-based photographer. Here is Lori's post The Colours of Marrakesh. Alice has lovely shots, more of which we will publish soon. But we're not feeling quite well & this lovely photograph sums up social life in Morocco (& Tunisia with which we are quite familiar, too) & also makes us feel better. Mint tea, anyone? Yes, please. Visit Alice's online portfolio, here. And of course, Lori, a collage artist, here.

Coffee Love & Bleeding Espresso

We love reading Bleeding Espresso & visit often. Do go...it's a free trip to Calabria, southern Italy complete with What's Cooking Wednesdays, Love Thursdays, & everything in between. We've not time to ask her for a photo, so we go with this hilarious poster...kind of sums us up sometimes.

Michelle's self-description: "Michelle Fabio, an American writer and attorney leaves the Anthracite Coal Region of Pennsylvania for her family's ancestral village in Calabria, Italy, falls in love, gets two dogs, writes to her heart's content and begins bleeding espresso. No, really."

Take it from GG Central, she's funny, kind, & thoughtful. Coincidentally, she's up for Best European Bloggie Award. Visit her & then vote...she didn't ask us, we think you should!

ciao-meow & baci!

Weight of the World...

We hope that the weight of the world will rest as lightly as this balloon, at least sometimes. Otherwise...you are in trouble! (Pure Wonder series by Ellen von Unwerth, scans from Vogue Italia)

A café, a balloon, a celebration

A balloon & a café au lait (or un chocolat chaud) . What more could you want? (Rhetorical. No emails with lists, please:) From Pure Wonder series by Ellen von Unwerth, Vogue Italia, Giugno 2007 (scans from personal copy).

Over the weekend, we'll post links to some Inaugural activities, but if you don't have a plan (whether you're here or not), make one now. Have an impromptu festa. Wherever you are, have some fun (& invite others who might not have plans)!

Have a great weekend!
Ciao-meow from GG & her editor

PS: Buon compleanno, Maria Caterina!

The Art of Coffee

Who says you shouldn't play with your food? Look at Have A Little Fun with Your Coffee. There's a devilish (or vampire?) bunny, musical notes, a swan, leaves, feathers, & more. We particularly like these photos: the bow-adorned little girl & what we think looks like the adorable Bella, an English spaniel we met on Thanksgiving. We're going to try this at home between real work today. GG wants a portrait en café & we try to humor her. (photos via pileofphotos)

A moment in Paris...

Not sure what kind of moment. We're still looking for the photographer. It's titled Alex & Adele at the Bar. We just like it. Make up a story.
