Beagle Candy

That is: beagle eye candy. This is a pointillist art work by Canadian Joel Brochu. He based it on an image of a beagle by Shingo Uchiyama, a Japanese photographer. (We can absolutely understand why Joel chose this great photograph, appropriately titled 'Be Patient.') This time of year, we have beagle cravings, probably stemming from our Snoopy love. If you're on Twitter, you should follow him. Even GG loves Snoopy. Read the full scoop here; thanks to Hazel at The Clever Pup for posting it on Facebook.

Hero Dogs

You're a hero. Everyone keeps telling you, but you don't feel much like a hero. Mostly, you feel frustrated, and angry, and scared. Frustrated at how tasks which used to be effortless now seem like climbing Mt. Everest. Angry, sometimes at the people you love and the very people who are trying to help you, because you hate feeling so dependent on them. This is not the future you had planned. And this - THIS? This 65 pound wagging yellow fool with the floppy ears and the tongue hanging out of his mouth - this is supposed to make any of that okay again? --read on, Hero Dogs

On Sunday, at the Takoma Park Street festival, GG's editor met an adorable (what other kind is there?) 10-week old yellow Labrador puppy who was to begin his training as a hero dog on Monday. The only thing that kept us warm in the cold rain was the puppy, the story of Lady Liberty & learning about the Hero Dog organization in the metropolitan Washington, DC-area. The people of Hero Dogs are new heroes to us. Check out their website, appearances at events in the area, & how you can help.

Faux Bo

Bo, the Obama family dog, sits by a larger-than-life holiday decoration of himself in the East Garden Room of the White House. Some 80 volunteers helped create the 4 foot statue, which is made of 40,000 pipe cleaners. (40,000!)

If you want to keep some people busy with pipe cleaner creatures, see here. More things are done with pipe cleaners than ever -- apparently. GG wants a tiara. Of course she does.

Bark for Barack

Or woof, if you like. GG has many, many canine friends & their humans. Visit the campaign site, democraticstuff.com, the Big Bad Woof (in Takoma Park, MD & DC--they also have gear for la gattina) & the Washington Humane Society. Read about the amazing new way they handle adoptions. Animal protection/adoption folks visit from all over the world & take ideas to their countries. It's genius.

Please go to BarackObama.com to get a list of undecided voters to call. It's nearly painless.

French Toffee on Hallowe'en

This is our friend Toffee dressed up for Hallowe'en! She's a Franco-American chienne & we're just crazy about her. As a French girl, she knows that a little classic touch (note the hair bow) goes a long way. And she was worried that she didn't have a great costume! She knows just how to pose--touching her forepaw to a tiny autumn gourd. C'est adorable. Look at those cute baby pumpkins.

Happy Birthday, Bon Anniversaire, Trina!

GG's editor wishes her very dear friend Trina, in Germany, a wonderful day & year. They were university students together in Strasbourg (let's not say how long ago) & share a birthday week. Above are Trina's darling pups, Rocky & Termi. We hear storiesa about their hijinks--quite a handful. GG would fit right in. A French-Italian redheaded cat with (real) German dachsunds? No problem. We are all friends, now.
