The laptop/poky internet problems continue. Meanwhile, suddenly (it seems) it's June aka the berry season. If you live in the DC-area, Butler's Orchard is a great place to pick your own berries (when possible). Otherwise, the farmers market is the place to go.
Adorable berry picking photographs & two good ideas on what to do with the berries. Honestly, though, does anyone really make anything on the first few go-rounds of local berries? From basket to mouth is the norm in these parts:)

If you've not signed on to Meatless Monday, here's a reminder for the new year. The easiest of recipes is your take on roasted veggies, any season. (If you have a cat & she eats a balanced diet, she is eating her veggies. Just don't tell her!)On our list today: red & golden beets, leeks, parsnips, red onion, Brussels sprouts, a handful of mushrooms. Purple potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, winter squash, celeriac, & fennel are lovely, too. Name it & it can be roasted. Toss in some garlic cloves or a whole head. Some olive oil, salt & pepper. Toss with pasta, onto a pizza (buy the dough!), make a soup. So easy. ciao-meow/GG's chef(photograph via Livet Hemma)
At double the price of regular eggs, it's not quite "every day" but for a lunch or supper or a poached egg for breakfast a few times a month, (really) fresh eggs are lovely. The point of everyday luxury is to make GG's editor look at ingredients/food in a different way.
We're lucky that our neighborhood farmer's market is open year-round. Perhaps that's the case for you, too. Or maybe there's a local shop or market that sells local farm eggs. If you don't have your Christmas tree or wreath or greens yet, you can probably pick those up, along with holiday flowers, at the same time.
La Tartine Gourmande has some wonderful egg recipes. And if you're feeling a bit low & sad about the gloom settling in around 3-4pm (or sooner!), take a summer stroll with Béatrice & family through a French farmer's market.

The Bing cherry is a favorite but other varieties (such as the Rainier & the Queen Anne) are gaining in popularity every year. Life may not be a bowl of cherries, but few things so simple can make people so happy. Even Giulia is enamored of this stone fruit, much like her comrade-in-fur in the photograph. Here are more cherry recipes than you probably know what to do with...that Martha, she's on top of it, as usual.
Remember to visit the new litter of kittens at the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee. We're down to the last week of the fundraiser & there are treats galore waiting for you. Following a litter of kittens from their shaky start to their adoption is a good thing. Trust us.

Giulia is not allowed to have spring onions (the entire lily family being poisonous to felines) but she likes to attend the nearby outdoor market. GG might accompany her editor to the White House market tomorrow. She is keen to meet the First Lady. Maybe even Bo the Dog. We don't have the heart to tell her that the name of the market notwithstanding, it is not at the White House.
GG's editor is massively busy cleaning up the aftermath of Giulia's Sunday Wild Rumpus. (As opposed to her Daily rumpi) Everyone is so busy these days...but here are two easy-peasy apple recipes from Jamie Oliver & Martha Stewart. Here's another gorgeous apple recipe--not as easy, no, but worth a bit more time. It's Hollandse appeltaart from super-Pille's nami-nami food blog. (photograph via Martha Stewart(dot)com)
