Sass & Class

This is a head scratchin' & shakin' thing. It's a Seinfeld episode. Woman ticketed for wearing a short skirt while cycling. Where is this? New. York. City. * Pls see update at end of post.

From Cycle Chic Copenhagen yesterday: "What may appear as a joke has proved to be yet another ridiculous incident involving uninformed police officers stopping cyclists for fictional infractions or to chastise them with self-invented rules." Visit Cycle Chic Copenhagen for more photographs, including one of the (alleged) ticketee.

Update - we're checking out reports that this is a hoax. Very uncool, if so. The fact that ticketing has happened elsewhere made it seem probable. Will update. Still, check out the cool skirt-wearing posts at Cycle Chic. Also, there will be a #shortskirtcelebrationride in NYC.

Update (again)

Here's are details from Maureen at Inspired Cyclists. A terrific blog, btw. A celebration ride is being planned for Thursday, 7pm, starting at Columbus Circle. If you're on Twitter, search the hashtag #biknyc for details. Giulia the Cat & her editor will be there in spirit. In short-shorts!

Tuesday Tulips

Giulia is snoozing, the icy rain is falling, & GG's editor remains, boringly enough, under-the-weather. If we could take a walk today, we'd be on the look-out for a bunch of tulips. Alas, it remains a virtual experience for now. (Isn't the bicycle a beauty?)

More tulips:
Abby Try Again in the tulip fields of Oregon. Pretty tulip necklace (only $20.00). Another tulip tour, this time in the Netherlands (scads of photographs). A winter tulip arrangement using bits & pieces of leftover holiday greenery. Fun tech: a USB tulip hub. Definitely on our wish list.

Très Charmant - Hanna Rides to the Sea - Week's End

Ocean On Bicycles from jean pichot on Vimeo.

GG & her editor
love this atmospheric & pretty little film by Jean Pichot; it reminds us of Jeanne Moreau in
Jules et Jim. It's less than two minutes long. There's a wonderful soundtrack by Jean, featuring a sample of the classic French song La Mer by Charles Trénet. (Who is that? Ooh la la, you need to click some links!) Click through to the vimeo (above) site to see the video on a larger screen in HD. It's worth it; it will make you smile (if not, there is no hope for you).

Have a lovely weekend.

Autumnal Cycle

Who said Washington, DC style is an oxymoron? People who do not live here, that's who. Here's a pretty flower-bedecked bicycle downtown. And where are we? Why, we are resolving a year+ computer crisis (finally). Additionally, we are self-censoring about some matters for the abstract future. Soon GG will be paw-painting & her editor will post those sure-to-be-declared masterpieces. It may come to that, yes.

Meanwhile, you might go to links such as Made4Aid & Darfur Peace & Development Organization (DPDO) to look around, do a little bidding, do a little good. Thanks!

Bicycle love

Charming bicycle-themed items from CircaCeramics on Etsy. Here's their February 2008 profile interview as a featured seller. For those of us who are without a bicycle, these can help. Take a look at this sweet bicycle notebook from violet.com [via A Cup of Jo's 2007 Gift Guide] GG is asleep in a sunbeam (an unholy cold wind blows today) after looking at these bicycle basket photos from Copenhagen Cycle Chic...she dreams of flying down a hill, in a flower-bedecked basket, her ears flattened back against her head.

Cycle Chic in Copenhagen

A beautiful photo, Waiting* from Copenhagen Cycle Chic. We'd be green with jealousy except that the photographer is so very kind to allow us to use the photo (here is his Danish website). Check out this elegant shot, one of our favorites (to choose even 20 favorites is impossible). After a look at these, we are ready to grab the passport, pop GG into her carrier, & move to Copenhagen. GG could ride in her basket, her editor could wear her high-heeled boots...without people tsk-tsking. Alas, we are in Washington. However, it's a wonderful feeling to walk around town...as a friend said at Thursday's lunch...it's not a dream, Obama is President-elect. Now if only we could fast-forward to 20 January 2009.

Sunday night, en vélo

Time to jump on your bike & go...somehere. If you're not in Amsterdam (where this photo was taken), a good bet is AFI Silver Theatre's EU Film Showcase series in Silver Spring, Maryland (a few blocks over the DC-line). You can take your bike on the Metro (last car) & you're almost there. After that, take a trip to Mandalay restaurant a few blocks away. It's great.

bisou, bonne nuit,
xo, GG
